Careers in Global Affairs
This career conversation brought together distinguished leaders in diplomacy, international development, and global policy, including a former U.S. ambassador, a former foreign minister, a global development finance executive, and senior fellows from Harvard Kennedy School. Speakers reflected on their professional journeys, offering candid insights into the diverse pathways that shape careers in global affairs. Attendees gained practical advice on pursuing impactful, cross-border work and engaging meaningfully in international service.
This field program took Global Affairs students through a full day inside two Boston consulates—the Danish mission and the French mission. Cohorts shadowed professional staff across briefings and daily workflows, learning how each post balances citizen services, visa operations, cultural programming, and trade support. Through direct observation and conversation with diplomats and consular officers, participants left with a grounded picture of consular careers, institutional rhythms, and the skills that matter on the ground.
